Introduction to Harishchandragad trek

Konkan Kada refers to the Konkan region, hence the name. Kada means stone in Marathi.
Harishchandragad Road is one of the toughest treks in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra. It is a hill fort in Ahmednagar district on Malshey Ghat. It rises to 4670 feet.

Harishchandragad is an ancient fort. Its origins date back to the 6th century when the country was ruled by the Kalchuri dynasty. But the caves shown above were probably carved in the 11th century. The buildings in and around the fort show the existence of different cultures. Examples include Saptateertha Pushkarni, Kedareshwar Cave, Harishchandra Temple, and other caves.

Harishchandragad trek has many routes and each route offers a surprise to the travelers. It’s also a complete visual package when you reach the top. It is a long natural wall whose structure thanks to this structure you can experience many natural phenomena such as vertical clouds, and circular rainbows, also known as the “Broken Spectrum”.

Clouds near the mouse are absorbed into the area below the crater and thrown directly into the sky. This gives the appearance of vertical rain.

The four pillars of the Kedareshwar Cave Temple:

Kedareshwar Cave is located to the right of the Harishchandra Temple. There is a huge Shiva Linga surrounded by water. It is very difficult to reach the center because the water inside will always be cold. The Kedareshwar Temple is famous for its four pillars. The four pillars represent the four yugas: Satya yuga, Treta yuga, Dvapara yuga and Kali yuga. The three hanging pillars represent the end of the yoke.

Saptateertha Pushkarni is a well-built lake to the east of the Harishchandreshwar temple. The temple-like structure on the banks of the lake used to house idols of Lord Vishnu. Now they are in pits. There are many caves in the fort. Some caves serve as shelters, while others are still well maintained.

Best Season for Harishchandragad Trek:

The best time for Harishchandragad trek is from August to February. Your green Harishandra is seen during this period. This is the best time to have a beautiful view during your trip. The weather can be very hot in summer. Hence a trek to Harishchandragad Peak is not recommended.

The upper path has many rocky parts. They become slippery during the monsoon season. Hence, traveling to Harishchandragad during the peak flight season is not recommended.

How to reach Harishchandragad Trek :

Harishchandragad Trek offers several routes. Each route starts from 3 villages. These are Khireshwar, Pachnai, Belpada/Walhivale. All three are accessible by public transport and own car.

Reaching Hireshwar:

Accessible from both Mumbai and Pune. You can use the link provided based on the starting point. If you are traveling from Mumbai use this link and from Pune use this link.

Reaching Pakhnai:

From Mumbai and Pune, Pakhnai is the farthest from Hireshwar. Since this is the easiest way to reach Harishchandragad, most beginners choose to trek from here. See the attached link to reach the destination from Mumbai and Pune

Reaching Belpada:

This village is now called Walkhivale. It is the closest village compared to the other three to Mumbai and Pune. Click on the link to reach the starting point of the journey in Mumbai and Pune.
As the Harishchandragad tour is very popular, parking is available at all three villages. There are many restaurants and hotels where you can park your car and start walking.

How difficult is Harishchandragad The journey:

If you are traveling from Belpada/Walhiwale there are very difficult parts. You must bring hiking gear and safety gear to the meeting. Therefore, go with an experienced trekking group or organization that can guarantee your safety. There are no hard parts on Pahnai Road. The road is very short and easy. The Kireshwar route has several sections that are considered difficult or tricky. The forest road is muddy. It can be slippery and slippery when it is rainy season. There are many loose stones along the road which makes walking difficult. Tolar Khind limestone is about 65-70 degrees. You must have proper walking shoes to safely traverse this section.
Since this is a rocky surface, it becomes slippery during monsoons. Although there are poles and chains in the support, you may lose your balance due to the high climb.
